Prime Minister Hun Sen: Competition between the United States and China Will Definitely Negatively Affect Global Economic Growth

New York: Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that the division of trade poles between the US and China will have a negative impact on global economic growth, prompting the strengthening of the multilateral trading system based on the laws with World Trade Organization as the core.

Addressing the 77th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that in order to respond to the division of trade between the two powers, the world needs a legal system and a central body to ensure that world trade will not be hindered.

The Prime Minister said: "In addition, the threat of trade and economic divisions arising from the rivalry between the United States and China will certainly negatively affect global economic growth. Therefore, the fundamental shift in the social, economic and political process is to strengthen the multilateral trading system based on the rule of law, with the World Trade Organization as the core that can promote open international trade, reduce trade barriers and ensure the resilience of regional and global value like a well oiled machine."

The Prime Minister also called for more attention to be paid to environmentally friendly digital policies and favorable regulatory frameworks that lead to greater investment in digital infrastructure as it is important to bridge the growing digital gap and create new sources of growth.

At the same time, promoting green economic development is an indispensable part of supporting sustainable socio-economic development through expanding cooperation in building green infrastructure, promoting energy transition, and the use of green technology.
